ToToM's Mashups

A few weeks ago, Chris from Culture Bully asked me if I could produce a mashup featuring a song from 2009. It appeared I could give him 2 songs and he really enjoyed them, especially the first one featuring a song from my favorite album of the year, Fever Ray's self-titled. I hope you'll like them too.

Il y a de ça quelques semaines, Chris de Culture Bully m'a demandé si je pouvais fournir un mashup inédit avec pour seule exigence d'y inclure un morceau datant de 2009. Il s'est avéré que j'ai lui fournir 2 productions qu'il a vraiment appréciées, particulièrement la première des deux qui contient un morceau tiré de mon album préféré sorti cette année 2009, l'album éponyme de Fever Ray. J'espère que ces deux-là ou au moins un des deux vous plairont.

Voici les deux morceaux qui scellent ma participation à Club Addiction 3, la compilation montée par KrazyBen et Fonky-M qui regroupe la crème des bootleggers francophones ainsi que quelques européens (rien de moins que LeeDM101 ou Clivester). Ces deux morceaux seront refaits un de ces 4 avec des sources de meilleure qualité donc à suivre...

DJ Zebra m'a demandé il y a quelques temps de contribuer à son album de mashups dédié à Woodstock, qui s'appelle donc Bootstock. Mon choix s'est porté sur le morceau très politique de Jefferson Airplane à un autre morceau aussi engagé du nouveau projet de Tom Morello avec le rappeur Boots Riley, le tout dans une version alternative à celle de l'album.

DJ Zebra asked me a while ago to contribute to his mashup album project dedicated to Woodstock that he naturally called Bootstock. I chose the very political track Volunteers by the Jefferson Airplane which I mashed to another song maybe as politically engaged of the new project coming from Tom Morello featuring the rapper Boots Riley, in a different version from the one in the album.

Dans les prochains jours, je compte sortir deux autres albums dont un quasi-totalement composés d'inédits dédié à Bob Dylan (l'autre étant un "Best of Bootleg is Resistance" qui regroupera le meilleur des trois volumes en un seul album plus facile à digérer).

Within the next days, I'm gonna release two other albums, included an album dedicated to Bob Dylan mostly including unreleased bootlegs (the other one being a "Best of Bootleg is Resistance" compiling the best of the three volumes, easier for your ears to digest).

Chris from Culture Bully asked me recently to provide an unreleased bootleg with songs from 2008. Luckily, I got something fitting his demand: a long multi-sources bootleg (7 minutes) featuring Radiohead, Franz Ferdinand, Devo over LCD Soundsystem remixed by Soulwax. Tasty uhh?... en deux versions comme le remix de Franz Ferdinand.

Chris de Culture Bully m'a demandé récemment de lui fournir un bootleg inédit contenant des chansons sorties en 2008. Coincidence heureuse, j'avais ce qui lui fallait: un long bootleg multi-sources de 7 minutes avec Radiohad, Franz Ferdinand et Devo par-dessus LCD Soundsystem remixé par Soulwax. Pas mal, non?... it comes into two versions just like the Franz Ferdinand remix.

Here's Bootwards 2 : Mash Up Side Down. After doing the Bootleg is Resistance (I still have a surprise for this), I needed something easier maybe, I already had a couple of bootlegs fitting to the original concept (rock acapellas over hip-hop/pop instrumentals) and many RockBand multitracks to use. This time, I asked for help to my fellow French bootlegger friends (Mighty Mike, Bogoss, ElectroSound, The Bootleague, Métamix, MichMash, Sebwax, Comar) who contributed to 11 mashups over 36. I managed to do a 80 minutes mix, I hope you'll enjoy it, just click on the cover picture (made by Fissunix).

Voici Bootwards 2 : Mash Up Side Down. Après Bootleg is Resistance (surprise à venir), j'avais besoin de quelque chose moins prise de tête, j'avais déjà deux bootlegs prêts collant parfaitement au concept d'origine (acapellas rock sur instrus hip-hop ou pop) et beaucoup de multitracks tirés de RockBand à utiliser. Cette fois-ci j'ai demandé de l'aide à mes collègues bootleggers français (Mighty Mike, Bogoss, ElectroSound, The Bootleague, Métamix, MichMash, Sebwax, Comar) qui ont contribué pour 11 des 36 morceaux. You might have heard about it, I made one track for this mashup album of a rare quality (thanks to Reborn Identity, Colatron, WaxAudio, Linus, and everyone who were involved). If, like me, you're admirative of David Lynch's universe, I promise you won't be disappointed.

Si vous suivez l'actualité des bootlegs de près, vous avez peut-être déjà entendu parler de cet album qui est d'une rare qualité (tout ça grâce à Reborn Identity, Colatron, WaxAudio, Linus, et ceux qui y ont participé), album pour lequel j'ai donc fait un morceau. Si comme moi vous êtes fans de l'univers de David Lynch, je vous le promets: vous ne serez pas déçus.

Ce premier volume contient des mashups (ou bootlegs si vous préférez) où vous entendrez Trent Reznor chanter sur des morceaux d'autres artistes voire parfois les siens.

Cela fait maintenant un moment que je me suis lancé sur ce projet d'album. Contrairement aux deux premiers, qui sont consacrés à l'album d'un groupe, cet album tourne autour d'un concept dans lequel je retourne le processus habituel de fabrication des mashups - très souvent un mashup consiste à coller un acapella de hip hop ou de RnB sur un morceau de rock récent ou un classique -. Agissant à l'inverse de cette habitude (qui est en fait le résultat d'une contrainte), les mashups sur cet album sont donc constitués d'un acapella de rock collés sur un instrumental de hip hop voire de musique électronique. Parfois, c'est simplement le négatif d'un mashup que j'avais déjà fait mais la plupart sont des idées complètement originales. Plus de détails sur la page dédiée. This has been quite a long time since I decided to make this mashup album. Contrary to the first two ones, I started from a concept which is basically taking backwards the usual process of making a mashup - which consists most often in taking a hip hop or RnB acapella in order to put it over a rock standard or and hype band's new sensation single -. The mashups in this album are basically rock acapellas over hip hop or electronic instrumental tracks. Sometimes it's just the negative side of a mashup I already made but most of the time, the idea is completely original. More details on the dedicated webpage. Voici ce dont je suis le plus fier dans tout ce que j'ai produit cette année, j'ai eu relativement peu de retour de la part de la communauté des bootleggers mais cet album de mashups a circulé chez beaucoup de fans de Nine Inch Nails dans le monde et j'ai eu beaucoup de retours enthousiastes de la part de fans sur cet album.
Il y a une page dédiée mais vous devriez plutôt télécharger l'album dans un zip (cliquer sur le lien juste vant la liste des morceaux) ou bien les pistes une à une.

Here is what I've been the most proud of this year. I got relatively few feedback from the community of bootleggers however this mashup album circulated quite a lot around the Internet and has been heard by many Nine Inch Nails fans all around the world, plus I got many enthusiastic feedback from NIN fans on this album.

Voici Bastard Pet Sounds qui date aussi de 2005. C'est un album de mashup fait à partir de Pet Sounds par les Beach Boys. La qualité d'exécution est en peu en deça de ce que je fais aujourd'hui mais il y a quelques morceaux auxquels je tiens encore beaucoup.

Here is Bastard Pet Sounds which was also made in 2005. It's a mashup album that's been made around Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys. The quality of the mashups sometimes is not as good as my usual work today however some tracks of this album still remain as personal favorites.
